Mick Fowler

A well-known figure on the international climbing scene, Mick was introduced to rock climbing and mountaineering in his early teens by his father. He has been at or near the top of the field in a wide variety of climbing disciplines over the last 30 years. He regularly lectures on climbing and contributes to the climbing press worldwide. In 2003 he and Paul Ramsden were the first British team to win the prestigious Piolet d’Or (France) and Golden Piton (USA) awards (for the ‘best’ new climb of the year) for their route on Siguniang.  Mick’s first book, Vertical Pleasure, was published in 1995 (reprinted 2006). His second book On Thin Ice was published in 2005. Mick has been a Management Committee member of the Mount Everest Foundation and is now President of the Alpine Club. All his climbing has been done in his holidays from his career in the UK tax office where he currently holds the position of Assistant Director of Capital Taxes. He lives in Derbyshire with his wife and two children.
